Install errors. Mothur not making on CentOS linux systems

Hi Pat,

I've tried a few linux systems now, running CentOS 5.4 and following instructions carefully. The mothur zip file unzips just fine, creating it's own mothur directory, but switching to that directory and entering <make> gives me the following:

  [hoyt@spur mothur]$ make
  mpic++ -O3 -DUSE_MPI sharedutilities.cpp -c -I. -o ./sharedutilities.o
  make: mpic++: Command not found
  make: *** [sharedutilities.o] Error 127
  [hoyt@spur mothur]$

On a different server:

  [hoyt@biochem5 mothur]$ make
   mpic++ -O3 -DUSE_MPI sharedutilities.cpp -c -I. -o ./sharedutilities.o
  make: mpic++: Command not found
  make: *** [sharedutilities.o] Error 127
  [hoyt@biochem5 mothur]$

Thanks for any insights you can give.

Pete

Pete - please re-download the source code and try again. I fixed the makefile yesterday and re-posted it.

Pat

Hi Pat,

I saw the new version and downloaded it yesterday before I posted. I re-downloaded the file this morning to be sure. After deleting all the previous files and the mothur directory, I unzipped the new source file again. The file permissions were then manually changed to 755 (if this is wrong please insult me without hesitation). The result was identical, see below:

  [hoyt@biochem5 mothur]$ make
  mpic++ -O3 -DUSE_MPI sharedutilities.cpp -c -I. -o ./sharedutilities.o
  make: mpic++: Command not found
  make: *** [sharedutilities.o] Error 127
  [hoyt@biochem5 mothur]$

Normally I would assume it's my servers, but the other server I tried was at the University's HPCC. Can you briefly interpret the error for me? I'm lousy at C++ but know some people who are good. Thanks. -pete

...and I can prove my ignorance about C++... it seems that we don't have the MPI version of C++ installed. I just spoke with our HPCC Director and sheis thrilled that mothur is using MPI and will get it all installed Monday. I'll post back here to let you know how it goes. FWIW, the Windows version is running great.

cool, did you get the windows to run on multiple processors?
