If you are a linux or Mac OS X user you will want to download the mothur source code and follow the instructions to install mothur. If you don't want to install the readline library, then you will need to comment out that part of the makefile.

Windows executable

We have compiled mothur v.1.8.1 using Visual Studio. We're pretty sure that the same executable should work for XP and Vista. Please let us know how this works for you: mothur for windows

Mac executable

We have compiled mothur v.1.8.0 using Xcode targeting 10.5. We're pretty sure that the same executable should work for 10.6. Please let us know how this works for you: mothur for mac
