Downloading an executable version of mothur is the easiest and fastest way to get started. If you would like to optimize mothur's build to your system architecture or make use of the MPI code you will need the source code.

Mac executable

We have compiled mothur v.1.12.1 on Mac OS X 10.5, but it has also been tested for 10.6. Please let us know how this works for you: 

32_bit executable:  32 bit mothur for mac 
64_bit executable:  64 bit mothur for mac

Windows executable

We have compiled mothur v.1.12.1. We're pretty sure that the same executable should work for XP and Vista. Please let us know how this works for you:

Source code

If you are a linux user or you want to build your own executable download the mothur source code and follow the instructions to install mothur. If you want to install the readline and openMPI libraries, then you will need to change those settings in the makefile.
